Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have abruptly backed out of starring in the racetrack film Monkeyface which British director Stephen Frears was due to begin filming in September.
The two stars, who are currently seeking damages from Hello! magazine in the London High Court, were to have played a pair of confidence tricksters at a Miami racecourse.
It was to have been their first film together, because although they both appeared in the Oscar-winning Traffic, they had no scenes together.
“Whatever the deal was to get Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, they couldn’t get it to work,” Frears told Reuters.
Sources say the producers may have decided not to go ahead with the film because there are several other confidence trickster films, including Matchstick Men and Ocean’s 12, in the offing.
