Sixties icon Marianne Faithfull has cancelled her European tour after collapsing with a seizure moments before going on stage, it was announced today.
The singer has been diagnosed with chronic exhaustion and ordered to rest for three months, her spokesman said.
Faithfull, 58, collapsed as she was about to take the stage in Milan last week.
She had hoped to resume the tour but doctors have advised her she needs complete rest.
The remaining dates – including shows in Glasgow and London – have been cancelled.
“I’m sorry to have let my fans down but I will be back,” Faithfull said.
The singer – who had affairs with three members of the Rolling Stones and went on to battle heroin addiction – plans to reschedule the dates for next year.
Her spokesman said: “Marianne has been forced to abandon her tour because of severe illness.
“Her exhaustion is the consequence of a gruelling work schedule. In the summer she appeared in a theatre production which opened in London and transferred to San Francisco, starring in some 75 performances.
“Immediately afterwards she embarked on a promotional tour of her album Before The Poison, then went into rehearsals for the European tour which opened in November.
“Doctors have diagnosed chronic exhaustion and Marianne has been advised to take three months’ total rest.”
