Darts: Adams seals semi-final spot

Martin Adams moved into the semi-finals of the Embassy 2002 Championships with a 5-1 victory over Wayne Jones.

Martin Adams moved into the semi-finals of the Embassy 2002 Championships with a 5-1 victory over Wayne Jones.

Jones opened up a two-leg lead but Adams recovered to take the set 3-2.

The number two seed took control of the second set with first throw advantage and, after breaking Jones, claimed it 3-0.

But Jones wasn't to be beaten that easily and he pulled the match back to 2-1 in set three.

Darts went with the throw all the way in set four allowing Adams to hold a 3-1 lead at the break.

Adams broke Jones immediately, but the unseeded Englishman battled back to two each. However, Adams broke Jones for a second time to take the set.

And 'Wolfie' sealed his place in the last four in the following set with a 3-1 victory.

"To be honest, I don't think the scoreline reflected the game," said Adams.

"Wayne played well and put me under a lot of pressure at times. But when you get an opportunity you have to take it.

"I performed better than in the second round and much better than in the first round. There are still a few parts of my game that aren't 100% but hopefully I can put them right for the semi-final."

Jones insisted he would have given Adams more to do if he had made a better start having lost the opening set on his darts.

"The first set was mine to win and I was annoyed I lost it," said Jones. "But it was a great game and I enjoyed myself. I thought I played well.

"I don't think 5-1 was a fair result because I didn't miss a lot, just a few doubles.

"Martin's finishing was better than mine - every time I left him a shot of around 110 or 120 he checked out."
