Consumers are being urged to shop around for home insurance after a survey showed potential savings of around €400.

The National Consumer Agency said it reviewed a range of property types around the country across nine insurance providers for its study.

The average potential savings across all seven profiles was €382.

The biggest difference in quotes provided was for a three-bedroom terraced house in Cork, where the highest quote was €864, or 305% more expensive than the lowest quote.

The NCA said the study clearly showed that consumers could be paying more than they need to on their home insurance policy.
