Scotland got exactly the victory they needed to defeat Ireland in the final European group stage of the ICC Intercontinental Cup today in Clontarf, robbing the home side of a place in the November play-offs in Dubai.
Ireland began the three-day international on 30 points, with Scotland on 17.5, but with fourteen points for a victory and 22 bonus ones available, the visitors were just too good.
Not even the rain could save Jason Molins' side as Fraser Watts cracked off a surefooted century for an eight wicket Scotland win. They needed just an hour of evening's play, having begun at 118 for 2, to reach their winning total.
Scotland now join Kenya, the United Arab Emirates and Canada in the last four of the competition.
