AIB moves into the black

AIB has released half year results showing profit before tax of €2.2bn to the end of June.

AIB has released half year results showing profit before tax of €2.2bn to the end of June.

That compares with a loss of €1.7bn on the same time last year.

Impairment charges came in at €2.9bn.

The bank's Executive Chairman David Hodgkinson has said the level of mortgage impairments has increased slightly, but nine out of 10 people are still making their repayments.

Mr Hodgkinson said the bank is working on helping customers who are having problems.
