The GAA has raised an estimated €5m for the Indian Ocean disaster aid effort.

The GAA has raised an estimated €5m for the Indian Ocean disaster aid effort.

Last weekend, the provincial councils pledged all gate receipts from their competitions to the disaster fund and the Munster Council will do likewise with the quarter-finals of the McGrath Cup.

Limerick, who take on Cork on Monday, have also agreed to donate their team expenses to the fund.

The Leinster Council raised more than €35,000 last weekend, while clubs, members and patrons also made separate contributions.

GAA PRO Danny Lynch said: "If you take it that most of our 850,000 membership donated a minimum of €5 to the appeal, then we have helped raise €4.25m so far."
