A 30-year-old man is recovering this morning after being shot in the leg in a paramilitary-style punishment attack in the North last night.

A 30-year-old man is recovering this morning after being shot in the leg in a paramilitary-style punishment attack in the North last night.

The man was walking along Jubilee Road in Newtownards, Co Down, when he was abducted by a number of men, taken to an area known as the Floodgates and shot in the leg.

Meanwhile, bomb disposal experts carried out of a controlled explosion this morning on a hoax device found in Magherafelt, Co Derry.

A number of houses were evacuated while the device was examined.
