Goals from talismanic striker Gary Twigg and winger Tommy Stewart earned Shamrock Rovers the point they needed to ensure the club won its first title in 16 years.

In keeping with their end of season jitters, however, Rovers' nerves got the better of them as they went a goal down on 20 minutes when Jakes Kelly nipped through to lob Alan Mannus for his 16th goal of the season.

But Twigg levelled on 42 minutes, availing of a slip by Shane O’Connor to race in, round Matt Gregg and fire through the legs of a defender on the line.

Stewart then put Rovers ahead within 12 seconds of the start of the second half. Dessie Baker and then Twigg helped the ball on to the former Northern Ireland under-21 international who shot beyond Gregg.

Rovers would have a nervous finish, though, as Bray equalised on 69 minutes when Gary Shaw dived to head home Daire Doyle’s right wing cross.

Referee Alan Kelly's final whistle was greeted with joy by the majority in the packed Carlisle Grounds as delighted Hoops fans invaded the pitch to celebrate.
