Hume to be awarded Freedom of Cork city

The Freedom of Cork city is to be conferred on John Hume later today.

The Freedom of Cork city is to be conferred on John Hume later today.

The MP and Member of European Parliament follows a long line of distinguished recipients of the honour including American presidents JFK and Woodrow Wilson, as well as former Irish President Mary Robinson.

The honour will be conferred on Mr Hume by the Lord Mayor of Cork, Colm Burke, at a special ceremony in City Hall at 3pm.
