Fianna Fáil is urging its members not to punish the Government by voting down the Children's Referendum.
The party has also raised concerns that the Government's plans to cut child benefit in the budget may impact on voter intentions.
Launching its campaign for a 'Yes' vote today, former Children's Minister Barry Andrews said he would be asking Fianna Fáil supporters to back the referendum, in spite of their concerns over Government policy.
Mr Andrews said: "We have to challenge the Government to match their rhetoric with resources and to follow this through in every respect.
"What we will be saying to our members is that we have to suspend any unhappiness that they may have with the Government so that we get this measure through, that is vitally important."
