“Paris is looking a better option than Newmarket,” she told The Sportsman yesterday.

“Marcus will leave it until the last minute and monitor the weather at Longchamp and, though I am a bit of a wimp and feel that Deep Impact is something of a superstar, we are warming to the idea of running in the Arc,” she explained.

“Sir Percy is in such good form at home and Marcus could not be more pleased. If we wait for the Emirates Airline Champion Stakes and the ground comes up fast there is no way we would run, which would be a crying shame.

“We could hardly have chosen a tougher Arc and there is no doubt Sir Percy will have to improve again, but circumstances have meant he has had the classic French preparation for the race.”

While she admits the prospect of Sir Percy lining up in both the Arc and Champion Stakes is extremely unlikely, Pakenham is yet to rule that possibility out entirely.

“Pride did the two races last year, finishing seventh behind Hurricane Run in Paris and then being beaten by only three parts of a length by David Junior at Newmarket, but it is probably too big an ask, especially as we plan to keep him in training next year,” she said.
