Joachim Kelly, an All-Ireland SHC winner in 1981 and 1985, has been handed a role on the Offaly hurling management team for next season.
The two-time All-star-winning midfielder is to replace departed selector Paudge Mulhare, who stepped down from his position for health reasons.
Kelly, who managed Wexford in 2000 and coached Galway side Portumna in recent seasons, could be a vital cog in Offaly manager John McIntyrne's backroom staff as the Faithfuls bid to recoup their former glories and some pride in 2006.
Offaly's 2005 championship ended with a vital relegation section semi-final win over Antrim in July, but the 0-15 to 6-28 hammering at the hands of Kilkenny in Leinster, the previous month, is still fresh in their minds.
