Two foreigners were killed today in China when they fell out of a plane as it was coming in to land in Shanghai.

The pair crawled out of the aircraft’s luggage hold and fell from the undercarriage of the Air France flight from Paris, officials said.

They fell onto a house in the city’s Laoxiang neighbourhood. It was unclear if anyone on the ground was hurt.

Shanghai police started an investigation after the plane landed at Pudong International Airport. Officials did not immediately identify the two or release their nationalities.

All the passengers in the plane’s main cabin left the aircraft safely, suggesting the pair had stowed away, the officials said.
