David Duchovny will appear in the final episode of The X-Files.

He will return for the last two-hour show of the series due to be shown in America in May.

The show's producers are refusing to reveal many details about the last five episodes, but say they'll "begin to provide highly anticipated answers to many of the show's most-asked questions."

Duchovny also will direct one of the last episodes, based on a story idea he co-wrote with the show's creator Chris Carter.
