Michael McDowell has denied suggestions of a rift between the two government parties over the future of Aer Lingus.

Speaking in Dublin, the Minister for Justice said he did not believe there was much difference between the Fianna Fáil and Progressive Democrats stances on the national airline.

Despite this the Taoiseach said a management buyout of the airline would be "inappropriate", while Tánaiste Mary Harney said all options should be kept open.

Minister McDowell appeared to back the Tánaiste's stance today when he said the cabinet was keeping an open mind on the matter pending examination of a consultant's report.
