Leeds players held over sex assault claim

Leeds United players Jody Morris and Jermaine Pennant were arrested today in connection with an alleged sexual assault.

Leeds United players Jody Morris and Jermaine Pennant were arrested today in connection with an alleged sexual assault.

Morris, 24, was originally quizzed last month following allegations that a 20-year-old woman was attacked in Leeds in the early hours of October 7.

A source at Leeds United said Jermaine Pennant, 20, was also arrested over the incident.

A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said two men aged 26 and 24 had been re-arrested today while a 20-year-old man had been detained for the first time.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “We have arrested a 20-year-old man, a 24-year-old man and a 26-year-old man. They are in police custody.

“They are being questioned in connection with an allegation of a serious sexual assault in the early hours of October 7.

“The 26-year-old and the 24-year-old have been re-arrested. The 20-year-old has been arrested for the first time.”

A Leeds United spokesman said the club was not going to release further details but confirmed that Morris had answered bail today.

Last month the former Chelsea player was questioned, along with a 26-year-old man, in connection with a second separate allegation of serious sexual assault. He was later bailed.

Morris was suspended by the club following his first arrest.

England Under-21 star Pennant is on loan at the Yorkshire club from Arsenal until December 20.
