The Rolling Stones latest world tour kicked off on a sour note last night when a fan was hospitalised after suffering two broken ankles and a broken wrist.

The unnamed female reportedly fell from the rafters at Boston, Massachusetts' baseball mecca Fenway Park as the rock greats played their first North American show.

Officials claim the fan fell almost 40 feet (12.1 meters) after losing her grip on a steel bar.

The 20-year-old is in a stable condition at nearby Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, according to police.

Concertgoers report the fan was seen sitting in the rafters for at least three songs before she tried to clamber forward to get a better view of her heroes.
