Minister welcomes EU safeguards on salmon prices

Marine Minister Pat "the Cope" Gallagher has welcomed the introduction of new EC safeguard measures to help protect Irish farmed salmon sales within the EU market.

Marine Minister Pat "the Cope" Gallagher has welcomed the introduction of new EC safeguard measures to help protect Irish farmed salmon sales within the EU market.

The measures involve a Minimum Import Price (MIP) of €2.70 for whole fish until April 15, 2005 and a floor price of €2.85 which will apply from April 16 to August 13 2008.

Minister Gallagher said: "The new measures will give the necessary protection that will allow them to compete successfully in the EU market."
