71% support more sex education in schools
A new report reveals that 71% of Irish people don’t think there is enough sex education in our schools.
A poll carried out by MORI, on behalf of the UN Family Planning Association shows that Ireland is second only to Sweden, out of the 13 countries surveyed on the subject.
It's prompting calls for the Minister for Education to implement the Relationships and Sexuality Education Programme immediately.
Tony O'Brien, of the Irish Family Planning Association says that Irish people have a liberal attitude to sex education.
"55% of Irish people believe the public should have access to advice on contraception, while in the Netherlands this is supported by 43% of the population," he said.
"This is an indication that Irish people do have liberal attitudes towards contraceptive provision and clearly, Irish people still want greater access."
