The Irish Financial Services Regulatory Authority (IFSRA) has advised motorists that they could save up to €1,800 on their car insurance by shopping around.
The authority said its latest study of car insurance premiums found that different motorists could save between €200 and €1,800 on different insurance policies.
However, IFSRA also said that the cheapest policy may not always be the most suitable.
It said people with a few years' driving experience might want to pay more to protect their no-claims bonus.
