Tipperary may not have made either the minor or senior All-Ireland hurling finals but Nenagh Eire Og ensured there was some Tipp success on finals weekend by securing the Meteor Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland Sevens title yesterday.
The north Tipperary outfit won the Sevens Senior Cup final for the first time since 1996, beating their neighbouring rivals Portroe by 3-20 to 4-10 in the final.
GAA President Nickey Brennan was on hand to present the Eire Og players with their trophies, while Portroe goalkeeper Darren Gleeson has some consolation by being named the Player of the Tournament.
Indeed, Tipperary dominated the Sevens Senior competition with all four semi-finalists hailing from the Premier County - Nenagh Eire Og, Portroe, Kiruane McDonaghs and Toomevara.
Meanwhile, the Shield competition was won for the second time by Monaghan side Castleblayney Faughs, who were last winners in 2000.
Faughs beat Setanta from Donegal by 5-9 to 5-4 in the Shield decider.
Cork club Midleton etched their name on the roll of honour by winning the Under-13 competition thanks to a 3-9 to 1-2 final victory over Ballyboden St. Enda's from Dublin.
Tom Rock, hairman of the Meteor Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Sevens Workgroup, said afterwards: "The tournament has been a huge success and it was fantastic to see such a fantastic turnout."
