Gardaí crack down on illegal scrap collections in Cork

A major operation is underway in Charleville in Co. Cork targetting the unlawful collection of scrap metal.

A major operation is underway in Charleville in Co. Cork targetting the unlawful collection of scrap metal.

Gardaí, Customs Officers and Social Welfare are all involved in the operation.

A number of homes have been raided and dozens of weapons seized, including pickaxes and slash hooks.

Four truck-loads of scrap metal have been seized as have a number of horses and dogs.

Customs Officers have also been carrying out checks on vehicles for green diesel.
