Public satisfaction with the Gardaí still high

Eight out of ten Irish people say they are happy with the Gardaí.

Eight out of ten Irish people say they are happy with the Gardaí.

Public satisfaction rates have fallen in 2005 however they still remain high with 83% of people being happy with the force.

The Garda Public Attitudes Survey satisfaction rates are down in 20 Garda Divsions, have improved in four with one division remaining unchanged on this time last year.

Dublin South Central has the highest level of dissatisfaction (25%) while in West Cork only 8% of people surveyed claimed to be unhappy with the Gardai.

In the Donegal Division victims of crime had the lowest level of satisfaction when it came to be informed of progress in their case.

The survey also found three out of every ten callers to 999 were unhappy with the Garda response.
