The Gaelic Players Association have confirmed the appointment of former Sligo footballer Dara McGarty as the new national development officer for the players' body.
McGarty has been a member of the Sligo senior football panel for the past seven seasons and was part of the side that won the county's first Connacht SFC title since 1975 last summer.
The 30-year-old will take up his new post with the GPA next month. He will lead the development and delivery of welfare services to the active inter-county players nationally.
Working directly with squads on the ground, McGarty will act as a conduit between the GPA office, the national executive and players. He will visit every dressing room in Ireland over the coming months as part of an intensive communications strategy.
The appointment of a NDO is part of the GPA's plans to develop and enhance the range of welfare services that it provides to support inter-county players.
McGarty, who plays his club football for St John's in Sligo, is a qualified radiographer and has worked at Sligo General Hospital since graduating in 2001.
