McDowell: Garda station closures are decided by Commissioner

The Minister for Justice, Michael Mc Dowell, says the quality of service from the gardaí will continue to improve.

The Minister for Justice, Michael Mc Dowell, says the quality of service from the gardaí will continue to improve.

Speaking at a ceremony in Dublin to mark the 90th anniversary of the foundation of the Irish Volunteers, Michael McDowell said no place in Ireland will be bereft of gardaí.

The Minister said the closure of garda stations in rural areas however would be an operational matter for Commissioner Noel Conroy.
