Greek MP defiant over TV slap

A Greek neo-Nazi MP, whose arrest is pending following his assault this week of two female leftist deputies on live TV, has showed no remorse in a statement.

The statement on the party's website says events "were staged, aimed solely at provoking an extreme reaction" by Ilias Kasidiaris, who is also the press spokesman for Golden Dawn.

Kasidiaris shocked the country by throwing a glass of water on leftist Syriza party deputy Rena Dourou and then striking Liana Kanelli from the communist KKE party three times live on television on Thursday morning.

Following the incident Athens prosecutors ordered Kasidiaris's arrest on the grounds of attempted grievous bodily harm, but he remains at large.
