The crew of a Limerick boat which won Class I of the BMW Round Ireland Race hope their success will encourage others in Limerick to take up sailing.

The crew of a Limerick boat which won Class I of the BMW Round Ireland Race hope their success will encourage others in Limerick to take up sailing.

Limerick Boat “Chieftain” won class one in the BMW Round Ireland Race last week in Wicklow crossing the finish line at 12.04am in a tough race.

The 2004 race was 704 miles around Ireland leaving Wicklow on June 26.

Chieftain Sails under the WYC Flag (Western Yacht Club) Kilrush.

The boat was skippered by Ger O'Rourke and the crew were Andrew Deakin, Justin Cullin , Colum & Brian Mc Elliott, Edwin O’Connor, Connor Maddan, Dom O’ Sullivan, Gordan Spain.
