Orde says dissidents still a major threat

PSNI chief constable Hugh Orde has said that dissident republicans still pose a significant threat to peace in the North.

PSNI chief constable Hugh Orde has said that dissident republicans still pose a significant threat to peace in the North.

Mr Orde was speaking after a 130lb car bomb was left outside a police station in Roslea, Co Fermanagh, on Saturday night.

The bomb was defused after a controlled explosion. More than 10 families were evacuated from their homes during the security alert.

“The threat is high,” Mr Orde said last night. “There are a lot of dissidents in prison north and south of the border, but the more successful we become, in a way the more dangerous that small minority become.

"They have no political philosophy, they have no local support, we are disrupting them and we will continue to fight against them.”
