Two men remain in custody today after shots were fired at gardaí in Kildare in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Two men remain in custody today after shots were fired at gardaí in Kildare in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Armed officers were trying to stop a vehicle, when they came under attack at Clonmoyle in Rathangan.

The gardaí gave chase and two men were arrested a short distance away and a firearm was also recovered at the scene.

Nobody was injured during the incident.

Both men, who are in their early 20s, were taken to Leixlip Garda station where they continue to be questioned.
