Eight books have been shortlisted for the Oireachtas na Gaeilge Irish Language Book of the Year awards.
The winners will be announced in early November, with prize money totalling around €25,000 for authors and publishers.
The books, including titles for both adults and children, have been selected for their content, design and layout.
Five adult’s books and three children’s titles have been shortlisted for the literary competition.
The adults books include collections of short stories and poetry, a bilingual Irish/English phrasebook for parents, and a Da Vinci code style novel about the discovery of an eighteenth century Gaelic manuscript.
The shortlisted children's entries include an illustrated collection of traditional rhymes, contemporary translations of a Norse legend, and of one of the best known epics in the Irish language, An Tain.
About 200 new titles are printed in Irish every year, with annual sales worth an estimated €1.3m.
