A Labour Party bill giving legal recognition to same-sex couples is due to be re-introduced during private members' time in the Dáil this week.

The proposed Civil Unions Bill would give same-sex couples the same benefits and legal obligations as married couples.

It was initially introduced last February, but the debate was postponed by the Government and the bill lapsed when the Dáil was dissolved in April.
