A fire on board a ship intended to transport nuclear fuel from Sellafield has led to renewed calls for the plant to be closed.
The fire, which occured on th Atlantic Osprey, was started during tests and was reported to be small.
Fianna Fail Councillor Frank Maher said today;
"It is clear that BNFL cannot be trusted in either transporting large amounts of radiocative material or in their management of the Sellafield plant which is a nuclear time bomb".
He believes it has also added further substance to the Irish Government's calls to have the controversial MOX plant axed.
