Blackburn today granted Barry Ferguson’s transfer request and said the unsettled midfielder can talk to Rangers about a return to Ibrox – but only if they agree to pay £6m (€8.6m) for the Scotland captain.
The Glasgow club have already had one £3m (€4.3m) offer for Ferguson rejected by Rovers, who bought him from Rangers 18 months ago for £6.5m (€9.3m).
Blackburn chief executive John Williams said: “We have reluctantly agreed to Barry’s request, and he is free to talk to Glasgow Rangers providing they meet our valuation of a guaranteed £6m (€8.6m).”
Williams insisted there had been no improved offer by Rangers so far but it is understood there were fresh talks between the clubs yesterday.
Ferguson did not play against Bolton last night and manager Mark Hughes said the player had been for a scan on a groin strain.
The 26-year-old has had an unhappy spell in England, partly due to a serious injury last season but more importantly he has struggled to settle and suffered badly from homesickness for his native Glasgow.
