ISEQ climbs 20 as Anglo shares climb

The ISEQ climbed more than 20 points in trading today, with Anglo Irish Bank the big winner as shares climbed almost 3%.

The ISEQ climbed more than 20 points in trading today, with Anglo Irish Bank the big winner as shares climbed almost 3%.

The ISEQ closed up 20.77 to 6,090.81.

Shares in Anglo Irish Bank surged 50c to €17.85.

Allied Irish Bank shares rose 2c to €14.72. The bank said today it expects to report earnings per share for this year to be in line with market forecasts.

Bank of Ireland shares slipped 1c to €11.78 while Irish Life & Permanent shares fell 5c to €13.10.

Pharmaceutical giant Elan saw shares climb 31c to €20.25, while food giant Kerry was another riser, climbing 20c to €18.50.

Fallers today included bookmaker Paddy Power - down 10c to €10.70 - and Qualceram Shires. The bathroom product maker fell 25c to €1.50.

The most traded shares were Anglo Irish Bank, AIB, eircom, Bank of Ireland and CRH.
