Veteran Down star Greg McCartan has failed in his bid to have a four-week ban overturned in time for Sunday's Ulster final replay with Tyrone.

Midfielder McCartan attended a personal hearing with the GAC on Wednesday night but to no avail and his dismissal for throwing the ball at Tyrone's Brian McGuigan stands.

McCartan's suspension will have broader implications for the Mourne men because he'll definitely miss their next game in the All-Ireland series or qualifiers.
