Aston Villa defender Mark Delaney could be out for two months with the ankle injury sustained in a tackle from Fulham’s Carlos Bocanegra.

The Wales international was carried off during last Wednesday’s Premiership clash at Loftus Road after a heavy challenge from the American.

X-rays revealed Delaney had not broken his leg but the player his been told by a specialist he is likely to be out for eight weeks.

Villa boss David O’Leary told the club’s official website, www.avfc.co.uk: “We thought at one stage that Mark had broken his leg.

“On the bright side, that’s not the case, but he is going to be out for at least a couple of months and he will be badly missed.”
