Blackburn manager Steve Kean has been charged with drink driving after failing a breath test just hours after his side’s draw against Manchester United.

The 43-year-old Scot was stopped by officers from Cheshire Police while travelling along the M6 in his Mercedes following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Ewood Park.

He provided a positive breath test and was subsequently charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The former Fulham, Coventry and Real Sociedad coach was bailed to appear at court next month.

A spokesman for Cheshire police said: “At 8.50pm on Saturday 14 May, Cheshire officers stopped a Mercedes car on the M6 southbound carriageway, between Junction 19 and 18.

“The driver, a 43-year-old man, provided a positive breath test.

“He was subsequently charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and bailed to appear at Crewe magistrates’ court on June 7.”

Kean was appointed caretaker manager at Blackburn in December following the sacking of Sam Allardyce, before being given the role permanently.

They are currently locked in a relegation battle and sit one point above the Premier League drop zone with one game remaining against Wolves on Sunday.
