Police in the Philippines have arrested a militant who is accused of involvement in a 2003 airport bombing in the country.
Ricardo Perez Ayeras also allegedly belongs to a radical Islamic convert group blacklisted by US authorities for plotting attacks against the American Embassy and other high-profile targets in Manila.
His group, the Rajah Solaiman Movement, has been weakened by crackdowns but is still regarded as a key threat by US and Filipino officials because its remaining militants who are based in cities can help larger groups like the Abu Sayyaf to stage urban attacks.
National police intelligence chief Manuel Barcena said Ayeras was captured by intelligence and counter-terrorism officials near a hospital in the capital late last night.
