McGrath sceptical about Ahern's coalition comments

Independent TD Finian McGrath has said he believes the Taoiseach wants to form a coalition Government with the Labour Party.

Independent TD Finian McGrath has said he believes the Taoiseach wants to form a coalition Government with the Labour Party.

Bertie Ahern has said his first preference would be a coalition with the PDs and like-minded independents, while the Greens are also still in the picture.

Mr McGrath is one of the independents likely to be courted by Fianna Fáil, but he said today that he believes the Taoiseach is engaging in "distraction politics".

"He is the master of it and I wouldn't be surprised if he is really doing business behind the scenes with the Labour Party," he said.
