Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has claimed the current teacher’s row has come about partly because of a "power struggle within the ASTI".

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has claimed the current teacher’s row has come about partly because of a "power struggle within the ASTI".

Mr Ahern claims the union also appears to be on a crusade against the rest of the public service, adding that teachers are already in line for major pay increases under the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness.

Nine days of teachers' strikes are expected between now and the Easter break.
