The controversial Poolbeg Incinerator has been given the green light.
An Bord Pleanála has granted planning permission for the development, which will have capacity to burn 600,000 tonnes of waste - making it the largest incinerator in the country.
The planning permission is subject to thirteen conditions, including that a community liaison committee be set up to communicate between Dublin City Council and local residents, who are largely opposed to the development.
Management at Poolbeg will also set up a fund for recreational and community facilities to improve the area.
Vehicles travelling to and from the new facility will have to use the M50 and Port Tunnel, in a bid to minimise traffic congestion.
However the decision is likely to cause outrage among people in Ringsend and local politicians, who are worried about pollution and traffic chaos in the area.
