4-year-old Ciaran who was killed by drunk driver, features in Christmas road safety message

A four-year-old boy who was killed by a drunk driver two years ago is the face of the Road Safety Authority’s Christmas campaign this year.

The ad which was launched today features Ciaran Treacy’s parents Gillian and Ronan Treacy, as well as emergency services who assisted on the day he died.

Gillian is heard to say: "My body was completely broken...but I didn’t realise I would never see him again."

268 people have been killed as a result of drink driving between 2008 and 2012.

Figures show alcohol was a major factor in almost 40 percent of all fatal crashes in that period.
