Hellvelyn is bang on target for the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock on Saturday week following his last-gasp victory at Beverley.

The lightly-raced three-year-old got up close home to short head Borderlescott in the Beverley Bullet over five furlongs at the weekend.

Last year’s Coventry Stakes winner had shaped most encouragingly on his belated seasonal debut when eighth to Sakhee’s Secret in the July Cup, and is now all set for next week’s six-furlong showpiece.

“I was absolutely thrilled to bits with him at Beverley. He’s come out of it really well,” said trainer Bryan Smart.

“What impressed me was how much speed he showed.

“It all points to Haydock now, all being well, but we don’t want much rain.”

Hellvelyn is 20-1 with the sponsors for the Group One feature.
