Water restrictions set to ease for New Year's Eve

Water restrictions are being eased in most areas across the country around this afternoon to facilitate New Year's Eve celebrations.

However, people are being urged conserve water where possible, as efforts to fully restore supplies continue.

Normal services are expected to be back in place across much of the country in the coming days, but there is likely to be disruption in Dublin for at least another week.

Department of the Environment engineer Gerry Galvin is appealing to householders to help out.

"Report leaks, repair links in your own property and continue to check any properties which were unattended when the thaw commenced," he said.
