The next Bishop of Killaloe is expected to be made known today.

Pope Benedict will announce a replacement for Dr Willie Walsh in Rome at 11am this morning.

Bishop Walsh tendered his resignation to the Vatican in January, having reached the mandatory retirement age of 75, following 15 years as head of the diocese which covers parts of counties Clare, Tipperary and Offaly.

The Irish Catholic Newspaper has suggested his replacement will not be a current priest of the diocese.
