Telegraph takeover won't be challenged
The takeover of the UK's Telegraph titles by the Barclay brothers will not be challenged on public interest grounds.
Britain's Trade and Industry Secretary Patricia Hewitt said she saw no need to intervene after reviewing the million acquisition in line with new media merger procedures put in place by the UK's 2003 Communications Act.
The deal is also being considered by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), which will look at the normal competition elements of the proposal.
David and Frederick Barclay, who also own The Business, Scotland on Sunday and The Scotsman, ended months of uncertainty in June by agreeing with Hollinger International to buy the Daily and Sunday Telegraph.
