Two men were being questioned today about a sectarian abduction attempt at a loyalist pub in Co Derry.

A woman wearing a GAA top faced a barrage of abuse when she stopped at the bar with a friend to use the toilet last night.

Angry drinkers at the premises in Drumahoe ordered the women out before grabbing one of them and headbutting her.

As they tried to escape to their car where the driver, a 17-year-old youth was waiting, one of the pair was blocked.

“All hell broke loose, the crowd spilled out and tried to break the window and pull the guy out,” one source said.

The car sped off after one of the women managed to get in. Although their friend was left stranded, she managed to escape and join them later.

It is believed the victims were from Co Tyrone and may have been touring in the area.

Two men were arrested by police called to investigate.

A PSNI spokesman said: “It was a very scary incident that could have turned very serious indeed.”
