The volume of retail sales increased by 3.4% in June 2005 compared to June 2004. There was a monthly increase of 0.5%.
The value of retail sales increased by 4.4% in June 2005 compared to June 2004 and increased by 0.5% in the month. However, if the motor trades is excluded, the annual increase was 6.1% and the monthly change was +2.4%.
May 2005 is the latest month for which final detailed figures are available. The three-month March 2005 – May 2005 volume figures show that, compared with the three months ending February 2005, the largest increase in the volume of sales was in the textiles and clothing (+3.7%) sector and the largest decrease in the volume of sales was in the furniture and lighting (-4.9%) sector.
