A New York judge has thrown out a lawsuit against McDonald’s which was brought by the parents of eight teenagers who said the fast food chain’s burgers and fries made them fat.

Judge Robert Sweet said if the youngsters could not prove deception or negligence by the owners of the Golden Arches, their best recourse would be to stop buying supersize meals.

Among the eight teens were a 28 stone 15-year-old and a 19 stone 19-year-old.

McDonald’s said: “We trusted the court to use its common sense to dismiss this claim – that’s exactly what the judge has done.”
